We're wrapping up the month of July with some more new content from upcoming producer Caitlin, our podcast team Simon and Maria, and another review from Jack Keating.
Today is also the last chance to apply to our mentoring competition! We're offering subscribers the chance to win two mentoring sessions. Do you have a short film script that you need feedback on? Are you thinking of submitting to a film fund for the first time and need some advice? Are you looking for advice on how to progress in your creative career? If you're a subscriber to Above The Line, you can email us firstname.lastname@example.org with a few sentences about yourself and what mentoring you are looking for. Entries close today!
Opera by Erick Oh
As a site dedicated to supporting a new generation of filmmakers, we review and profile short films and debut feature films. This month resident reviewer Jack Keating turns his attention to Opera by Erick Oh, one of the 2021 Academy Award nominees for best short film.
The Reason I Jump
Simon and Maria caught up with the team behind The Reason I Jump, a ground breaking documentary about the lives of autistic people across the world. In this episode we talk to producer Al Morrow and director Jerry Rothwell about developing the film, their approach to filming and sound design, and the impact of the film.
Over the past few months, we've published a journal by new producer Caitlin, as she makes her first funded short film after graduating from film school last year. You can read her latest entry here
and if you're new to the site and want to hear more about Caitlin's journey, you can find her first journal entry here:
We aren't taking a break over summer, in fact, we're adding a lot more content but changing our focus a little. In August and September we will be posting interviews with a range of film crew, from Assistant directors to Editors, Production Designers and Cinematographers.
Thank you for being part of Above The Line!
